Having a testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel is a prerequisite to attending the temple. In addition, a few questions are asked to the person whether they follow the commandments as outlined by our Heavenly Father. This includes tithing (as discussed in Malachi). Should we not be willing to give back to our Father since He has blessed us wit h all that we have?
All believers are part of the priesthood with Jesus as the high priest. The apostles were given the charge to spread the gospel (which they did).
That said, Jesus did not establish a lasting hierarchy or priesthood here on earth. The Holy Spirit is supposed to aid and comfort the believers.
Now, the apostles did give us the New Testament canon. However, so did Jesus’ brothers (James and Jude), the writer of Hebrews (Apollos?), as well as Mark (Peter’s scribe) and Luke (a doctor and historian).
The Pharisee, like the temple recommend holder of today, had a testimony of God. He fasted & tithed, too. He was a very strict religionist & law keeper. He felt he had a recommend in the temple before God. Who does Jesus say returned home justified?
Of course we are only justified through the grace of Christ. Keeping the commandments is worthless if we don’t have faith that the grace of Christ, and not our own actions, will save us.
If you are only justified through the grace of Christ, then who are you trying to impress? To what purpose is a temple recommend if not for pretense & pride? The publican sinner in the Luke 18 parable did not have one & yet Jesus is telling us that he went home justified. In what did he make his boast? Compare this with the purpose of temples as decribed in Holy Scripture.
I’m not trying to impress anybody. I realize you’ve never been a member of the LDS Church and therefore have a somewhat limited understanding of a temple recommend. Once I receive the recommend in a private interview with my bishop, it goes into the back of my wallet where I don’t bring it back out again or even mention it until I go to the temple. When I go to Church on Sunday, nobody knows if I have a temple recommend and I don’t know if they do, it has nothing to do with pride or pretense.
I go to the temple to worship and feel closer to God, and to make covenants with Him. I know I will absolutely fall short in those covenants and therefore rely on the Savior to be my advocate with the Father.
I find this discussion very ironic considering that you use your Youtube channel to promote a website called powertoprosperonline*com, which appears to be a “Christian” MLM system.
So what is the true purpose of your channel–to help others come unto Christ or to drum up business and referrals?
I’m not so sure The Lord would approve of your sweeping judgment of the heart of every single LDS temple recommend holder being as those of the Pharisees. Remember that there is one Eternal Judge, Jesus Christ, not you sir.
Like LDS, Inc. – both.
Truth-esteeming anti-Mormonistics’ pushed the LDS church to come clean on its horrendous history & its false foundational claims, and stop marketing its evasive, white-washed, cover-up propaganda.
In searching for the words and trying to find her voice for this duty, Megan reveals glimpses of her immediate families expectations, historical legacy, and rebellious and zany outtakes in this delicious collision of life smashing with conservative family values.
shulamitefire,
you are VERY judgmental. so quick to make every one who is trying to do good appear less than you.
I think you should STOP.
“My observation is that a proper interview should take place at about six to eight week intervals,” President Monson said. “If you have them more frequently than that, you will find they become too commonplace. If you wait a more lengthy period, you will probably miss some of the things that otherwise could be learned in an interview.”

omiolo: I still want you to know that God loves you.
My guess would be that omiolo knows, as do all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that he is a son of a Heavenly Father who loves him.
It is a beautiful message that we want to make sure all of our brothers and sisters in the world know and understand.
I trust a prophet of God far more than I trust your opinion.
omiolo: I pray you be drawn ever further into the living flames of blazing love intimacy with the uncreator Creator. Oh, the splendor of surrender to the superscendent Son. Great HE IS and greatly to be praised!
I still do want omiolo to know that God truly does love him, even with this comment not being approved. Because we disagree does not mean we should mince words and be short on love.
“even with this comment not being approved.”
I have always approved all of your comments. Please do not imply otherwise.
I’ve always admired you Momon’s temples such beautiful peaces of art. I’ve walked through the temple in New York when it was open to the public. For all non mormons, you should know it had a very peaceful, beautiful spirit about it. I trust my intuition when i say no evil is found there.
Thanks for your comment. I wish everyone would have the opportunity to walk through a temple and feel those same things.
