It was important that God said, “Let us make man in our image” instead of “make their bodies look like their spirits.” By being created in the image of God, it means to be created in the essence of God, to be able to possess and develop some of His divine attributes: love, charity, compassion, mercy, honesty, just, holy, etc. It sets us apart from the animal kingdom by saying that mankind is in the image of God, inheriting some of His divine attributes and potential.

The quote you noted above is from The Book of Abraham. In the New Testament, Hebrews 1:2 notes “…His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” Jesus Christ is indeed the creator of many worlds. But Genesis only gives us the account of the creation of our world.

Umm, yeah, that “I only give ye an account of this world” isn’t in my version of the Bible. Just sayin’.

Also, how does The Father telling Jesus “Let’s make man in our image.” reconcile with the fact the Jesus is also one of these Spirit Children or the fact that these Spirit Children existed before hand? Wouldn’t he just say “Let’s make sure the mortal bodies are the same sort of appearance as the spirit ones.” ?

Hey thanks for the question! The Church has no official position on the processes of creation, other than that God was the author of it. The actual processes God used, we leave to science to investigate and also welcome any new revelation God will give on the matter.

i know very little about the mormon faith, but do you believe in the literal description of creation or are you open to the idea of gradual evolution? don’t get offended im just curious.
